Description

This is either a tribute to the greatness that is Mister Vimes from Terry Pratchett's Discworld series or to the fact that the sketches that you see will very likely be reduced to a grey smear in my sketchbook in a week's time due to the unpleasant inclination towards smudgeness that mechanical pencils have in my sketchbook, and this is an early fairwell to them. This is partly based on my vision of Vimes (both human and dog), partly based on Paul Kidby's vision of Vimes (he makes Vimes too skinny in my opinion), and partly based on the shepherd-rottweiler mix dog drawing that you might be able to find somewhere in my gallery. When I originally started drawing Vimes, I had him pinned down as, quite obviously, a german shepherd. But a nagging voice in my head kept telling me Come on. Would Vimes really approve of being...a purebred? So I threw in a rotty which, like Vimes, has a bad reputation and could quite easily be a rather nasty dog unless you train the beast and steer their strength and their teeth to something more useful with some discipline and training. Nearly all of the sketches were from when I was reading The Fifth Elephant. The one on the top left is from The Truth. I could probably list the exact lines each expression refers to in the books. But I don't feel like it xP

Brilliant. Although I do not agree with your opinion about Paul Kidby's  Vimes (I always imagined Vimes in the similar way he draws him), I love the way you made him. Although I never portaraied Vimes to be that... expressive. Still looks great.
